Fair enough.

My view is that the cold war caused a great deal of distortion in U.S. foreign policy, much of it in ways I dislike.

It is difficult to be too critical of that period however, since the ultimate result was victory.

Sorry, Dave. Unfair poke. I had in mind the Israeli occupation of Lebanon, at the time when Ariel Sharon earned his nickname of Butcher. The Syrians stepped into the vacuum when the Israelis left.

The Israeli occupation was tacitly supported by the US, but without any without overt assistance.

I am sorry that was not clear.

Hmmm. I don't recall ever claiming that the insurgents in Iraq or the palestinian terrorists were cowards in general, although in some specific cases they have certainly shown to be. In particular I found the Jan. 30th (Iraqi election day) use of a Down's syndrome teen as a suicide bomber to be extremely cowardly.

As to deserving of support, well, I any Iraqis or Palestinians wish to peacefully protest I will certainly support their right to do so. I may very well support their cause, or at least some of their greivances. However, when you blow up innocent civilians purposefully you pretty much lose any claim to my support. You are then just a mad dog that needs to be put down.

I find the moral blindness that would equate the Lebanese protesters against Syria with the people who killed over 100 Iraqi's today for the crime of being willing to work for their own government fairly despicable as well.

"Their courage is amazing, and deserving of our awe and support."

But not, I take it, when the invader or occupying army is American or perhaps Israeli?

Interesting dichotomy...
