Faith

Running for the Right has a very interesting post up on the need for Faith that makes us sacrifice, as well as his personal conversion story.

Meanwhile, at The Roost” there is a good post up about alternate beliefs to Christianity and how far the public and the religious spheres should accomodate one another.

Ahhhh - you always say such nice things!

I do not think that faith is as important to the human psyche as we are led to belive. We should be able to think on our own, and not be trained to defer to some greater being to think for us and forgive us when we screw up. We should forgive ourselves, and work at making our screwups better.

But, that’s just how I feel, I could be wrong :)

My definition of faith does not imply a lack of critical thought. Indeed, I believe that true faith requires critical thought, although it also requires trust.

That does not mean it cannot be tested however. I can’t think of any religion that does not promise benefits, at least of the ’spirit,’ and by this I don’t mean just an afterlife, but peace, contentment, and joy in the here and now.

I am not particularly religious, although religion has always fascinated me. However, those people who I indentify as having strong faith do in general seem happier and more contented than the average. They also seem to be very aware of their own need for improvement and reducing their screwups.
