Hollywood’s misunderstood terrorists

8:48 am on Thursday, December 29, 2005

Victor Davis Hanson writes about Hollywoods portrayal of terrorists in The Honolulu Advertiser. This phrase at the end is especially clever:

If Hollywood wants to know why attendance is down, it is not just the misdemeanor sin of warping reality, but the artistic felony that it does so in such a predictable manner.

I am not big on the whole Hollywood is liberal and hopelessly out of touch rants.  It may well be, but complaining about it doesn’t seem all that useful to me.  It also doesn’t seem to me to do much harm, except perhaps at the box office, and even there the problem isn’t that these movies are political, but that they are crap.

Have you seen Syriana? I’d love to hear your feedback. I plan to write up my thoughts soon. George Clooney is really impressing me lately with Good Night and Good Luck and Syriana. Too bad no one sees them :P

I have not seen it. Based upon the reviews I have seen it is not something I am interested in, not because of it’s politics, but because it is said to be a mishmashed and disorganized movie without a clear plot thread.

In general, I like George Clooney as an actor but Syriana doesn’t seem like a movie that is worth my money.
