Space Tourism

Washington Post

Regular tourist trips into space are still a thing of the future, but the government is getting ready for the eventual liftoff.More than 120 pages of proposed rules, released Thursday, governing the future of space tourism touch on everything from medical standards for passengers to preflight training.

They spell out qualification and training requirements for the crew, and mandate training and informed consent for the “space flight participants” _ known in more earthly terms as passengers.

I have mixed feelings about this.  On the one hand, it is really cool that space tourism is close enough to reality that we are starting to talk about guidlines and standards.  On the other hand, it is really annoying that our culture is such that guidlines and standards and and pethora of rules need to exist even before space tourism is a reality.
