Afghan convert arrives in Italy
The Afghan man who could have received the death penalty for his conversion from Islam to Christianity has arrived in Italy after leaving Afghanistan earlier Wednesday, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi announced at a news conference.Earlier, Berlusconi said Italy would be happy to grant asylum to Rahman, and the Italian Cabinet approved an amnesty offer.
While it is unfortunate that Abdul Rahman had to flee his homeland to be safe, it is gratifying to see that Afghan authorities freed him. It will take a lot of time for Afghanistan to become what we would consider a modern society. They are on the right path though.
