I expect that things would be much worse if American troops had left Iraq by now.

that’s entirely a matter of opinion since neither of us can know with any degree of certainty “what would be”.

Post fact “What if’s” are probably mankind’s greatest time waster.
There is a problem in Iraq.
How do we solve it?
How do we stop it happening again?
