Democrats: Bolton still a ‘bully’
Democrats on Thursday said they remain opposed to President Bush’s pick for U.N. ambassador, contending that John Bolton has not yet repaired his reputation as an ineffective “bully.”Sen. Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat, cited recent press reports on Bolton’s interactions with other U.N. officials as evidence that Bolton “clearly has an aversion in my view to building consensus.”
A Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing for Bolton, who has been serving as ambassador under a recess appointment, twice was interrupted by protesters shouting that he did not effectively represent U.S. interests.
Two things occur to me on this. One is that I am not opposed to having a ‘bully’ as our representative to the U.N. The U.N. needs, and deserves, to be bullied from time to time. The second is that if John Bolton is so scary to Democrats, one wonders why we should consider them up to the task of taking on the real bullies in the world.
Granted, his moustache is a fairly scary thing to confront, but still…

This reminds me of my thoughts when the Democrats started saying “We only voted for the war because Bush tricked us!”
Well… who would you rather have in charge: the guys who are easily deceived, or the guy who pulled it off?
