From Hezbollah to Hezbollost

Diplomats and military analysts continue to debate The War of the Rockets. The conventional wisdom — or more accurately, the wisdom of first impressions — said Israel lost the military war and Hezbollah won by surviving.

I don’t think we will have a clear answer on who won and who lost (or more accurately, who lost less) for at least a year.  The Hezbollah-Israel conflict was much more a political contest than a military one, and the political outcome will take some time to develop.

If at the end of this process, Lebannon is in control of all of its territory (for the first time in a very long time) and Hezbollah does not dominate Lebanon politically than it will probably be a loss for Hezbollah and a somewhat of a victory for Israel.

I still think that Israel made some huge mistakes, and turned an opportunity for a real lasting victory into a situation where victory is doubtful and will at best be a mixed bag.
