Election Day
Here it is, the day when those evil Republicans will finally get what is coming to them, and the nobel Democrats will save America for the children, or the day when the Democrats will prove to still be out of touch with America and the great Republicans will get a mandate to save the world from the evil terrorists.
I don’t know what will happen. If I had to make a guess I’d say that the Democrats will gain enough house seats from control, but not as many as some think and it will be a very slim majority. I expect that they won’t take control of the Senate. In many ways though I think that that is less important than we like to think when caught up in the heat of the election.
Believing in Democracy means accepting the results, even if they don’t go your way. Somehow the American people, despite everything, seem to manage to pick leaders that get the job done, and I don’t expect that this election will be markedly different. I am sure if the Democrats win big I will hate a lot of what they will do in the next couple of years, but at the same time, it isn’t going to be ‘the end of everything’ and life will go on. I hope that most Democrats feel the same way if their election hopes are not realized today.
We all have a lot more in common than we have differences, while we squable about a lot of things, on the things that matter we really do agree.
So here is hoping that people choose wisely as they vote today, and accept the winners with good grace and last, but not least, that our leaders for the next two years act with wisdom.
