Obama In
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said today he is taking the initial step in a presidential bid that could make him the nation’s first black to occupy the White House.Obama announced on his Web site, www.barackobama.com, that he was filing a presidential exploratory committee. He said he would announce more about his plans in his home state of Illinois on Feb. 10.
“I certainly didn’t expect to find myself in this position a year ago,” Obama said in a video posting. “I’ve been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics. So I’ve spent some time thinking about how I could best advance the cause of change and progress that we so desperately need.”
I have a great deal of respect for Barack Obama, but I am not sure this step is wise for him politically. He is very unproven, both as a leader and as a campaigner, and while he can certainly deliver a good speech, it takes more than that to compete in this arena. While he may succeed, it seems like a high risk venture to me. That said, I certainly look forward to watching him over the next couple of years.

I think Obama is caught between a rock and a hard place. He really doesn’t have enough experience to run for President now, but he will never have the momentum and appeal that he currently has.
He may as well run. If he fails he has a ready-made reason (The people decided that he wasn’t experienced enough) that will go away over time.
