Prince Harry and his regiment are to be sent to Iraq despite the security risk his deployment will pose, the government confirmed today. The defence secretary, Des Browne, outlined the posting to Iraq of Harry’s regiment, the Blues and Royals, in a written statement to the Commons.

To protect the prince’s safety, Clarence House appealed to the media not to speculate about where he would serve.

The prince, who is third in line to the throne, will become the first royal to serve a tour of duty in a war zone since his uncle Prince Andrew flew helicopters in the Falklands conflict 25 years ago.

Good for Harry, and may he return safely.

Peter wrote that Christians are “a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people” (1 Peter 2:9).

Have no Christians served a tour of duty in a war zone since 1982?

Theological questions aside, I think basic reading comprehension would reveal that this is talking about the British Royal Family.

Do you think basic reading comprehension would reveal that Christians who are not members of “the British Royal Family” are royal?

I think that basic reading comprehension would reveal that that chapter is poetic, so even those who were themselves Christian might not take it literally, anymore then when Christ said Peter was the rock on whom he would build his Church he wasn’t indicating that Peter was in fact composed of stone.

Further, even if one was to take it literally, one would realize that the phrase ‘royal priesthood’ would mean a preisthood founded by a monarch. In this case one would suppose the monarch to be the ‘King of Kings.’ Just as a the individuals in the ‘Royal Navy’ are not in fact all royals, neither would the members of the ‘royal priesthood’ be royalty themselves.

Lastly, I think reading comprehension would reveal that the exhortation “The greatest among you will be your servant.” should advise any Chirstian not to think to highly of themselves or put on airs.

In four years of reading blogs, this is without a doubt the weirdest conversation I have ever witnessed.

So, hey, man. Congrats, sort of.
