Sarah Palin McCain’s VP Pick
This strikes me as a very smart move. I have followed the speculation on Palin for a few months now, but I didn’t place much stock in her chances. For those of you that don’t know, she is the popular Governor of Alaska, a mother of 5 and her youngest child, born just last April has Down syndrome. Her decision not to abort the child after after pre-natal testing revealed the problem has made her something of a hero to anti-abortion advocates. She also has pretty good limited government credentials and has strongly challenged Don Young and Ted Stevens, Alaska Republicans who have become symbols of earmarks and corruption.
Palin adds much needed youthfulness and dynamicism to the McCain ticket and at the same time reassures the base in ways that I don’t think any of the other prospective VP picks could. That she is is a woman also cannot be underestimated, taking a bit off of Obama’s historical nomination and also quite possibly attracting some women who still are upset about Hillary’s defeat.
What I don’t know about Palin is how well she campaigns. We’ll see that soon though.
